African Game Lodge

Our last stop-over on last December road trip was African Game Lodge.  African Game Lodge is a 30 mins drive from Montagu (on a dirt road).

The reserve has a wealth of bird-life and bio-diversity of the Little Karoo and offering an off the grid solar solution.

My first impression of the African Game Lodge is that how peaceful and pretty the lodge is. We stayed in a 2 bedroom thatched lodge. A comfortable African style which at the same time is environmental friendly. All towels, bedding, kitchen equipment are provided. There are even recycle bins in the kitchen. Fireplace was a nice touch to warm our evening there plus some board games kept our kids occupied and forgot screens during our stay there. All appliance is on 12 V solar power and there is no wifi in each lodge.  However, the main building housed a dining area as well as lounge area where wi fi is available and you can charge your cells there.

There are 1 bedroom lodge as well as bush camp for those more adventurous than us! 🙂 A put put came on handy as the kids were crazy about put put on our road trip. You need to pay some rental amount for the clubs and balls.  An inviting swimming pool is right by the lounge/main house area.

The kitchen is fully equipped, enable us to self catered. Just bring all your ingredients before you arrive as it’s quite a dirt road to get in and out of the lodge. The lodge catered for breakfast or full board however it’s not halaal. So best to bring everything with you.

The lodge offer a game drives (not big five) with additional rates. We didn’t go though, as we only spent a night there. Therefore  I couldn’t share how the drive is.  However being in the middle of the reserve, some animals might come as close as your doorstep 🙂 I saw some “unrecognized” animal droppings around the lodge, put put  and the main house, which means there are wildlife right at our doorstep. Being a city girl, that was the only thing that I was a bit uncomfortable, the droppings around me 🙂 Otherwise, this view from our lodge is just so peaceful, under African sky…
