Having just arrived back from a month holiday in Indonesia, a good Asian spa treatment is all I needed to revitalize my body and mind following a long haul flight.
I was invited to try this beautiful recently opened spa, Mai Thai Wellness Spa in a historical 19th Century house in Dixon Street, De Waterkant Village in Cape Town. Don’t worry about the parking although it’s in town, there are plenty of parking in the Cape Quarter Lifestyle Mall Parking Garage, a few minutes walk from the spa’s house.
Mai Thai Wellness Spa combined the massage ritual and botanical recipes from Thailand with a touch of Africa.
The moment I entered the spa entrance I was impressed with the calmness and top of the range interiors, rich fabrics, handpicked decorative pieces and exotic scents that transport me immediately to the feeling of being on holiday in Asia again.
I was immediately welcomed by Pitar with Asian hospitality. A beautiful welcome cup of tea and a warm towel was handed to me in the spa’s beautiful reception. Pitar then showed me some beautiful oils from HARNN, Thailand that I could choose for my treatments. I have never been asked for my preference oils/scents before in other spas in Cape Town and overseas. This is something different and special!
The spa has highly trained therapists from both South Africa and Thailand providing therapy treatments from an array of outstanding east meets west massage options; facials from the prestigious QMS range from Germany and HARNN from Thailand as well as luxury manicures and pedicures with OPI. The spa offers expert waxing for men and women with Cirépil wax, by Perron Rigot. It is excellent for sensitive skin and reputed to be one of the finest waxes available.
So, for my top to toe day spa firstly I had mani and pedi on the go, a 30 mins each file, buff and paint in the mani/pedi room. Although I opted out the paint option, the treatment was relaxing, while I enjoyed a cup of Tichaa Butterfly Pea & White Mulberry Tisane from Thailand. Ticha loose tea is caffeine free blend of white mulberry leafs with other herbs and spices for unique flavors.
Then I moved to the treatment room for a body scrub using the essence I have chosen, which was jasmine as the aroma of jasmine reminded so much of fresh jasmine garland from my wedding day in Indonesia. Following the scrub, I was given a set of slipper and silk bathrobe. In the shower room, the set of jasmine body cleansing gel, shampoo and conditioner were provided. Depending on your choice of Mai Thai Signature Journey, your essence of scrubs and massage oil, cleansing gel sets, besides jasmine, you could choose from Oriental Rose, Dreamcather (spice & citrus, lavender and lemongrass) or Misty Mountains (spice & citrus, sugar coffee, bergamot and sandalwood). A fresh set of towel bathrobe and slipper are waiting for me in the shower room.
Back in the room, a fresh warm percale white bedding was set up for my massage treatment. This time I chose Mai Thai Sports Massage as suggested, to release all the tensions from jet lag. Black pepper Massage Balm from HARNN was used with my request to combine it with lemongrass oil for an exotic aroma. Sumatra, an experienced South African therapist has done a great job with the massage. Her hospitality and caring manner helped me at ease and dozed off. Blissful.
Ahh, then it’s time to wake up a bit as HARNN facial was next. The facial left my face cleaned and hydrated let alone the beautiful scents of water lily made me felt that I was in Asia all over again. As I was due for some brow shaping, a quick wax was done before the mask was applied.
What I also like about this boutique spa, I didn’t feel that they rushed me for other client’s appointment. All the stuff made felt special and I was treated like royalty if I could say 🙂
I enjoyed another cup of Tichaa tea in the serene and greenery of the spa’s beautiful bamboo courtyard to close up my spa journey with Mai Thai Wellness Spa.
The spa is also a retail boutique offering the essence of Asian heritage. You can purchase the spa products used during your treatments, bottle of Tichaa Art of Infusion Tea or gift sets. The spa also offers a range of organic essential oils, travel candles, interior room sprays and diffusers including the award winning Vuudh Aromatic Hand Blown Glass Star Fruit Diffuser which is considered one of the most effective and sculptural botanical diffusers from the East. With silk scarves, traditional bone-shaped cushions, Thai ‘elephant-patterned’ trousers and their range of 100% cotton Eye Cushions and Neck Pillows from Thailand for ultimate comfort, the spa is a treasure trove of perfect lifestyle, spa gifts and home accessories.
Mai Thai offers Spa Packages as well as special occasion spa packages . Mai Thai also caters for Little Musketeer (6-12 years old) and for your little one’s spa party.
I enjoyed my first class spa experience with Mai Thai Wellness Spa. A perfect escape from hustle bustle life, without having to drive or fly somewhere as it’s right in the heart of Cape Town. Mai Thai currently voted number one spa in Cape Town, version of Trip Advisor.
Have a go, pamper yourself for an hour or two, you wouldn’t regret it 🙂
