Last night my family and I had a pleasant dining experience in recently opened Simply India, in Foreshore (another branch is in Hout Bay market). The restaurant is located right next to Park Inn Hotel Foreshore. There are parking lots in and around Simply India. While it’s not occupying a big space, the setting is intimate and authentic. I love the lighting, the setting and the candlelit on the tables. There are 3 large tables and some high tables and chairs.
We were greeted by the friendly and attentive owner. He explained that all the food is strictly halaal. The meats and chicken came from halaal butchery and no alcohols are served nor permitted in the premise.
The order was taken in efficient and friendly manner. The meals came in a decent time. I must say I was impressed with my order (pictured above). It’s called Thali, a choice of certain dishes, served with rice, papad, roti, sambal and indian sauces. I chose Lamb Thali (R90). The Thali meals ranged from R60-R150 (the R150 is for Fish and Prawn curry). Hmm… as I am typing now I felt like this thali again. It’s a wholesome meal. For those who have known me long enough maybe know that for me, my comfy carbohydrate is rice! So I was happy to see rice along with roti and papad. Apologize the papad wasn’t in the pic, my kids took the papad plate and started munching it before I took picture 🙂 The condiment: sambal, yoghurt and the peas and potatoes curry were all tasty. The lamb? was so tender and the taste was just right.
The rest of my gang (aka family) had chicken tandori (R5- or R55) and butter chicken/chicken tikka (R60). The tandoris are served with chips, salad, nan and yoghurt.
The menu list is quite extensive. However, as Simply India in Foreshore has just opened in less than a week, some of the menu wasn’t available yet. Hubby was going to order the vegetarian curry, but the owner did promise us next time before we come we must just message him before we come.
Price-wise Simply India is affordable. The Street Food menu ranged from R20-R100. I love the warm puri with green peas and potato curry. There is stir fried chicken noodle (R65) as well on the Street Food menu. The samosas ranged from R25-R35 for 4. Biryani and chili meals ranged from R50-R70.
There are curries take aways specials and combos ranged from R15-R70. The bunnies ranged from R20-R90. Indian style burger range from R50-R65. Sandwiches for takeaway during lunch time range from R20-R50.
Simply India offers some Indian drinks as well as soft drinks. However, a jug of mint water is provided on the table.
As the location is right in CBD area, it’s within walking distance from office buildings there. A great lunch choice.
Will I come again here or order a take away? definitely, yes!
