I’ve been wanting to try out Jiah Restaurant since their opening over a year ago. Thought will give them a chance to “settle” themselves as a new restaurant. So we went last February on a Friday night to check it out. Here’s our experience of dining there 🙂
Decoration & Ambience
First of all was impressed with the trendy exterior decor of the restaurant. The location is in a trendy part of city as well. I’ve just felt I was transformed to somewhere exotic when walking in the terrace, it must be the effect of the grey wall with a little carving feature by the entrance. The ambience was quite cosy but romantic with the dim lighting in the first floor. There are street parking opposite Fire and Ice Hotel, the main entrance of the Restaurant is on the other side of the road though (a very short walking distance). Continue reading Jiah Restaurant
We’ve finally got a chance to try the hips and happening fully halaal restaurant in Athlone, The Butcher’s Wife (“TBW”).
We meant to go to TBW for quite some time, but we have been hesitated after observing how full the restaurant from outside when we passed there. If you’ve known me by now, I love great food, but queuing for food is not my thing 🙂 So, one early evening when we were in the area and it seemed TBW wasn’t that full, we jumped into the opportunity! Here’s my review on our experience in TBW.

For those who plan a trip to Port Elizabeth, you are spoiled for choice for halaal eateries. On our Dec Road trip, we stayed overnight in PE, I wish that we stayed longer as we had all fully halaal eateries, one of them was Taj Mahal in Bay West Mall. In fact, many eateries in the food court area in Bay West Mall if it not all, are halaal. I can’t really confirm if all of them in food court are halaal now as I am now back in Cape Town 🙂 Continue reading Taj Mahal, Port Elizabeth
I’ve had a pleasure of meeting up with fellow blogger, a recipe book author, a Cape Malay culture keeper, Salwaa Smith at her kitchen shop in Newfields. Continue reading Cape Malay Cooking – Salwaa Smith
So, almost every Saturday morning you would see me walk in to this shop, FreshStop Penlyn to grab an irresistible cup of cappuccino or butterscotch latte from its Seattle Coffee Co counter after dropping off my girl in her madrassa in the area. Continue reading FreshStop Penlyn

Have you tried Decadent Delights Bake Shop goodies in Kenilworth Centre? You won’t miss the kiosk, it’s on the ground floor, with cheerful balloons and pretty pink polkadot counters.
Decadent Delights started off as home-based baker business, then the kiosk in KC opened two years ago. Everything is strictly halaal there, as confirmed by the friendly Muslim couple who own the shop, Shameez and Nathier. They explained that only real fresh cream is used. Beacon chocolate is used as it is halaal certified. The owners buy their meats for savouries either at the Busy Corner or Pickers halaal butcheries. Continue reading Decadent Delights Bake Shop
During the school holiday I’ve compiled strictly halaal eateries with play areas. As parents with three little munchkins, we prefer to dine in child friendly eateries. This list is specified to the halaal eateries with play areas, as opposed as merely child friendly (have kids menu and crayons). Kindly click the green link for the full review of such eatery where applicable.
Surprisingly spacious with various toys, divided in different segments. Located in second floor, there are some dine in tables for family with kids on this level. Beautiful view of Hout Bay from the table area.
